5:1 แต่พี่น้องทั้งหลาย เรื่องวันและเวลาที่ทรงกำหนดไว้นั้น ไม่จำเป็นจะต้องเขียนบอกให้ท่านรู้
5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
5:2 เพราะท่านเองก็รู้ดีแล้วว่า วันขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะมาเหมือนอย่างขโมยที่มาในเวลากลางคืน
5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
5:3 เมื่อเขาพูดว่า "สงบสุขและปลอดภัยแล้ว" เมื่อนั้นแหละความพินาศก็จะมาถึงเขาทันที เหมือนกับความเจ็บปวดมาถึงหญิงที่มีครรภ์ เขาจะหนีก็ไม่พ้น
5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
5:4 แต่พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ท่านไม่ได้อยู่ในความมืดแล้ว เพื่อวันนั้นจะไม่มาถึงท่านอย่างขโมยมา
5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5:5 ท่านทั้งหลายเป็นบุตรของความสว่าง และเป็นบุตรของกลางวัน เราทั้งหลายไม่ได้เป็นของกลางคืน หรือของความมืด
5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
5:6 เหตุฉะนั้นอย่าให้เราหลับเหมือนอย่างคนอื่น แต่ให้เราเฝ้าระวังและไม่เมามาย
5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
5:7 เพราะว่าคนนอนหลับก็ย่อมหลับในเวลากลางคืน และคนเมาก็ย่อมเมาในเวลากลางคืน
5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
5:8 แต่เมื่อเราเป็นของกลางวันแล้ว ก็อย่าให้เราเมามาย จงสวมความเชื่อกับความรักเป็นเกราะป้องกันอก และสวมความหวังที่จะได้ความรอดเป็นหมวกเหล็ก
5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
5:9 เพราะว่าพระเจ้ามิได้ทรงกำหนดเราไว้สำหรับพระอาชญา แต่สำหรับให้ได้รับความรอดโดยพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา
5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
5:10 ผู้ทรงสิ้นพระชนม์เพื่อเรา เพื่อว่าถึงเราจะตื่นอยู่หรือจะหลับ เราจะได้มีชีวิตกับพระองค์
5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
5:11 เหตุฉะนั้นจงหนุนใจกัน และต่างคนต่างจงก่อกันขึ้น ตามอย่างที่ท่านกำลังทำอยู่นั้น
5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
5:12 พี่น้องทั้งหลาย เราขอวิงวอนท่านให้รู้จักคนที่ทำงานอยู่ในพวกท่าน และปกครองท่านในองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และตักเตือนท่าน
5:12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
5:13 จงเคารพเขาให้มากในความรักเพราะงานที่เขาได้กระทำ และจงอยู่อย่างสงบสุขด้วยกัน
5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
5:14 แต่พี่น้องทั้งหลาย เราขอเตือนสติพวกท่านให้ตักเตือนคนที่เกะกะ หนุนน้ำใจผู้ที่ท้อใจ ชูกำลังคนที่อ่อนกำลัง และมีใจอดเอาเบาสู้ต่อคนทั้งปวง
5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
5:15 ระวังให้ดีอย่าให้คนใดทำชั่วตอบแทนการชั่วต่อคนอื่น แต่จงหาทางทำดีเสมอต่อพวกท่านเอง และต่อคนทั้งปวงด้วย
5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
5:16 จงชื่นบานอยู่เสมอ
5:16 Rejoice evermore.
5:17 จงอธิษฐานอย่างสม่ำเสมอ
5:17 Pray without ceasing.
5:18 จงขอบพระคุณในทุกกรณี เพราะนี่แหละเป็นน้ำพระทัยของพระเจ้าในพระเยซูคริสต์เพื่อท่านทั้งหลาย
5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
5:19 อย่าดับพระวิญญาณ
5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
5:20 อย่าประมาทคำพยากรณ์
5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
5:21 จงพิสูจน์ทุกสิ่ง สิ่งที่ดีนั้นจงยึดถือไว้ให้มั่น
5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
5:22 จงเว้นเสียจากสิ่งที่ดูเหมือนชั่วทุกอย่าง
5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
5:23 และขอให้องค์พระเจ้าแห่งสันติสุขทรงตั้งท่านเป็นคนบริสุทธิ์หมดจด และข้าพเจ้าอธิษฐานต่อพระเจ้าให้ทรงรักษาทั้งวิญญาณ จิตใจและร่างกายของท่านไว้ให้ปราศจากการติเตียน จนถึงวันที่พระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราเสด็จมา
5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
5:24 พระองค์ผู้ทรงเรียกท่านนั้นสัตย์ซื่อ และพระองค์จะทรงทำให้สำเร็จ
5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
5:25 พี่น้องทั้งหลาย จงอธิษฐานเพื่อเราด้วย
5:25 Brethren, pray for us.
5:26 จงทักทายปราศรัยพวกพี่น้องด้วยธรรมเนียมจุบอันบริสุทธิ์
5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
5:27 ข้าพเจ้าบัญชาท่านทั้งหลายโดยองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ให้ท่านอ่านจดหมายฉบับนี้ให้บรรดาพี่น้องอันบริสุทธิ์ฟัง
5:27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
5:28 ขอให้พระคุณของพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา ดำรงอยู่กับท่านทั้งหลายเถิด เอเมน [จดหมายฉบับแรกถึงชาวเธสะโลนิกาได้เขียนจากกรุงเอเธนส์]
5:28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
