2:1 เหตุฉะนั้นบุตรของข้าพเจ้าเอ๋ย จงเข้มแข็งขึ้นในพระคุณซึ่งมีอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์
2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2:2 จงมอบคำสอนเหล่านั้นซึ่งท่านได้ยินจากข้าพเจ้าต่อหน้าพยานหลายคนไว้กับคนที่สัตย์ซื่อ ที่สามารถสอนคนอื่นได้ด้วย
2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2:3 ฉะนั้นท่านจงทนการยากลำบากดุจทหารที่ดีของพระเยซูคริสต์
2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
2:4 ไม่มีทหารคนใด เมื่อเข้าประจำการแล้ว จะไปห่วงใยกับการทำมาหากินของเขาในชีวิตนี้ เพื่อผู้ที่ได้เลือกเขาให้เป็นทหารนั้นจะได้ชอบใจ
2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
2:5 และถ้าผู้ใดจะเข้าแข่งขันกัน เขาก็คงมิได้สวมมงกุฎ เว้นเสียแต่เขาได้ปฏิบัติตามกฎ
2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
2:6 กสิกรผู้ตรากตรำทำงานก็ต้องเป็นคนแรกที่ได้รับผล
2:6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
2:7 จงใคร่ครวญถึงสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าได้พูดเถิด ด้วยองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงประทานความเข้าใจให้แก่ท่านในทุกสิ่ง
2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
2:8 จงระลึกถึงพระเยซูคริสต์ ผู้ทรงสืบเชื้อสายจากดาวิด ได้ทรงถูกชุบให้เป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย ตามข่าวประเสริฐที่ข้าพเจ้าประกาศนั้น
2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
2:9 และเพราะเหตุข่าวประเสริฐนั้น ข้าพเจ้าจึงทนทุกข์ ถูกล่ามโซ่ดังผู้ร้าย แต่พระวจนะของพระเจ้านั้นไม่มีผู้ใดเอาโซ่ล่ามไว้ได้
2:9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
2:10 เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงยอมทนทุกอย่าง เพราะเห็นแก่ผู้ที่ทรงเลือกสรรไว้นั้น เพื่อเขาจะได้รับความรอดด้วย ซึ่งมีอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์ พร้อมทั้งสง่าราศีนิรันดร์
2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2:11 คำนี้เป็นคำสัตย์จริง คือถ้าเราตายกับพระองค์ เราก็จะมีชีวิตอยู่กับพระองค์เช่นกัน
2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
2:12 ถ้าเราทนความทุกข์ทรมาน เราก็จะได้ครองร่วมกับพระองค์ด้วย ถ้าเราปฏิเสธพระองค์ พระองค์ก็จะปฏิเสธเราเช่นเดียวกัน
2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
2:13 ถ้าเราไม่เชื่อ พระองค์ก็ยังทรงไว้ซึ่งความสัตย์ซื่อ เพราะพระองค์จะปฏิเสธพระองค์เองไม่ได้
2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
2:14 จงเตือนเขาทั้งหลายให้ระลึกถึงข้อความเหล่านี้ และกำชับเขาต่อพระพักตร์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ไม่ให้เขาโต้เถียงกันในเรื่องถ้อยคำ ซึ่งไม่เป็นประโยชน์เลย แต่กลับเป็นเหตุให้คนที่ฟังเขวไป
2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2:15 จงหมั่นศึกษาค้นคว้าเพื่อสำแดงตนเองให้เป็นที่ชอบพระทัยพระเจ้า เป็นคนงานที่ไม่ต้องละอาย แยกแยะพระวจนะแห่งความจริงนั้นได้อย่างถูกต้อง
2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2:16 แต่จงหลีกไปเสียจากถ้อยคำหมิ่นประมาทและไร้ประโยชน์ เพราะคำอย่างนั้นย่อมก่อให้เกิดอธรรมมากยิ่งขึ้น
2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2:17 และคำพูดของเขาจะแพร่ออกไปเหมือนแผลเนื้อร้าย ในพวกนั้นมีฮีเมเนอัสกับฟิเลทัสเป็นต้น
2:17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2:18 คนทั้งสองนั้นได้หลงจากความจริง โดยพูดว่าการฟื้นจากความตายนั้นได้ผ่านพ้นไปแล้ว และได้ทำลายความเชื่อของบางคนเสีย
2:18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
2:19 แต่ว่ารากฐานแห่งพระเจ้านั้นอยู่อย่างมั่นคง โดยมีตราประทับไว้ว่า `องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงรู้จักคนเหล่านั้นที่เป็นของพระองค์' และ `ให้ทุกคนซึ่งออกพระนามของพระคริสต์ละทิ้งความชั่วช้าเสีย'
2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2:20 แต่ว่าในบ้านใหญ่หลังหนึ่งๆมิได้มีแต่ภาชนะทองและเงินเท่านั้น แต่มีภาชนะไม้และภาชนะดินด้วย บ้างก็มีเกียรติ และบ้างก็ไร้เกียรติ
2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2:21 เหตุฉะนั้นถ้าผู้ใดชำระตัวให้พ้นจากสิ่งเหล่านี้ เขาก็จะเป็นภาชนะที่มีเกียรติ ซึ่งคัดไว้แล้ว เหมาะที่นายจะใช้ให้เป็นประโยชน์ และถูกเตรียมไว้พร้อมสำหรับการดีทุกอย่าง
2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
2:22 จงหลีกหนีเสียจากราคะตัณหาของคนหนุ่ม แต่จงใฝ่ในความชอบธรรม ในความเชื่อ ความรัก และสันติสุข ร่วมกับผู้ที่ออกพระนามขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าด้วยใจบริสุทธิ์
2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2:23 จงหลีกเลี่ยงจากปัญหาอันโง่เขลาและไม่เป็นสาระ ด้วยรู้แล้วว่าปัญหาเหล่านั้นก่อให้เกิดการทะเลาะวิวาทกัน
2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
2:24 ฝ่ายผู้รับใช้ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าต้องไม่เป็นคนที่ชอบการทะเลาะวิวาท แต่ต้องมีใจสุภาพต่อคนทั้งปวง เหมาะที่จะเป็นครูและมีความอดทน
2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2:25 ด้วยความอ่อนสุภาพจงสอนคนเหล่านั้นที่ต่อสู้กับตัวเอง ถ้าพระเจ้าอาจจะทรงโปรดให้เขากลับใจเสียใหม่มารับความจริง
2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2:26 และเขาอาจหลุดพ้นบ่วงของพญามาร ผู้ซึ่งดักจับเขาไว้ให้ทำตามความประสงค์ของมัน
2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
