1:1 ข้าพเจ้าผู้ปกครอง เรียน กายอัสที่รัก ผู้ซึ่งข้าพเจ้ารักเนื่องด้วยความจริงนั้น
1:1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
1:2 ท่านที่รัก ข้าพเจ้าปรารถนามากกว่าทุกสิ่งที่จะให้ท่านจำเริญขึ้นและมีสุขภาพดี เหมือนอย่างที่จิตวิญญาณของท่านจำเริญอยู่นั้น
1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1:3 เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้าชื่นชมยินดีเป็นอย่างยิ่ง เมื่อพวกพี่น้องได้มา และเป็นพยานถึงความจริงที่อยู่ในตัวท่าน ตามที่ท่านได้ดำเนินตามความจริงนั้น
1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
1:4 ไม่มีสิ่งใดที่จะทำให้ข้าพเจ้ายินดียิ่งกว่านี้ คือที่ได้ยินว่า บุตรทั้งหลายของข้าพเจ้าดำเนินตามความจริง
1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
1:5 ท่านที่รัก เมื่อท่านกระทำสิ่งใดแก่พี่น้องและแก่คนแปลกถิ่น ท่านก็กระทำอย่างสัตย์ซื่อ
1:5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
1:6 เขาเหล่านั้นได้เป็นพยานต่อหน้าคริสตจักรถึงความรักของท่าน ถ้าท่านจะช่วยจัดส่งเขาเหล่านั้นในการเดินทางของเขา ตามที่สมควรตามแบบอย่างของพระเจ้า ท่านก็จะกระทำดี
1:6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
1:7 เขาเหล่านั้นได้ออกไปเพราะเห็นแก่พระนามของพระองค์ และไม่ได้รับสิ่งใดจากพวกต่างชาติเลย
1:7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
1:8 ฉะนั้นเราควรต้อนรับคนอย่างนั้น เพื่อเราจะได้เป็นผู้ร่วมงานกับความจริง
1:8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
1:9 ข้าพเจ้าได้เขียนถึงคริสตจักร แต่ดิโอเตรเฟส ผู้อยากจะเป็นใหญ่เป็นโตท่ามกลางพวกเขาหาได้รับรองเราไว้ไม่
1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
1:10 เหตุฉะนั้นถ้าข้าพเจ้ามา ข้าพเจ้าจะจดจำการกระทำทั้งหลายของเขา คือที่เขาพร่ำกล่าวใส่ความเราด้วยถ้อยคำประสงค์ร้าย และเท่านั้นก็ยังไม่สาแก่ใจ เขาเองไม่ยอมรับรองพี่น้องเหล่านั้น และหนำซ้ำยังกีดกันคนที่ใคร่จะรับรองเขา และไล่เขาออกจากคริสตจักรไปเสีย
1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
1:11 ท่านที่รัก อย่าเอาเยี่ยงสิ่งที่ชั่ว แต่จงเอาอย่างสิ่งที่ดี ผู้ที่ทำดีก็มาจากพระเจ้า ผู้ที่ทำชั่วก็ไม่เห็นพระเจ้า
1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
1:12 เดเมตริอัสได้รับการชื่นชมจากคนทั้งปวง และความจริงเองก็เป็นพยานอยู่ในตัวของมันเองอยู่แล้ว ใช่แล้ว เราเองก็เป็นพยานด้วย และท่านก็รู้ว่าคำพยานของเราเป็นความจริง
1:12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
1:13 ข้าพเจ้ามีหลายเรื่องที่จะเขียน แต่ไม่อยากจะเขียนถึงท่านด้วยน้ำหมึกและปากกา
1:13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
1:14 แต่ข้าพเจ้าหวังใจว่าจะได้พบท่านในเร็วๆนี้ และจะได้พูดกันต่อหน้า ขอสันติสุขจงมีแก่ท่าน บรรดาสหายของเราฝากคำคำนับมายังท่าน ขอฝากความระลึกถึงมายังบรรดาสหายแต่ละคนตามชื่อของเขานั้น
1:14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
