1:1 เปาโล ผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้า และอัครสาวกของพระเยซูคริสต์ เนื่องด้วยความเชื่อของผู้ที่พระเจ้าได้ทรงเลือกสรรไว้ และให้รู้จักความจริงตามทางของพระเจ้า
1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
1:2 ด้วยหวังว่าจะได้ชีวิตนิรันดร์ ซึ่งพระเจ้าผู้ไม่สามารถตรัสมุสา ได้ทรงสัญญาไว้ตั้งแต่ก่อนสร้างโลก
1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
1:3 แต่ในเวลาที่พระเจ้าทรงกำหนดไว้ ก็ได้ทรงโปรดให้พระวจนะของพระองค์ปรากฏด้วยการเทศนา ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้รับมอบไว้ ตามพระบัญญัติของพระเจ้าผู้ทรงช่วยเราทั้งหลายให้รอด
1:3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
1:4 ถึง ทิตัส ผู้เป็นบุตรแท้ของข้าพเจ้าในความเชื่อเดียวกัน ขอพระคุณ พระเมตตา และสันติสุขจากพระเจ้าพระบิดา และพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้าพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา จงดำรงอยู่กับท่านเถิด
1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
1:5 เพราะเหตุนี้เองข้าพเจ้าจึงละท่านไว้ที่เกาะครีต ก็เพื่อท่านจะได้แก้ไขสิ่งที่ยังบกพร่องให้เรียบร้อย และตั้งผู้ปกครองไว้ทุกเมืองตามที่ข้าพเจ้าได้กำชับท่านแล้ว
1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
1:6 คือถ้ามีใครไม่มีข้อตำหนิ เป็นสามีของหญิงคนเดียว มีบุตรสัตย์ซื่อ และไม่มีใครกล่าวหาว่าบุตรนั้นเป็นนักเลงหรือเป็นคนดื้อกระด้าง
1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
1:7 เพราะว่าศิษยาภิบาลนั้น ในฐานะที่เป็นผู้รับมอบฉันทะจากพระเจ้า ต้องเป็นคนที่ไม่มีข้อตำหนิ ไม่เป็นคนเย่อหยิ่ง ไม่เป็นคนเลือดร้อน ไม่เป็นนักเลงสุรา ไม่เป็นนักเลงหัวไม้ และไม่เป็นคนโลภมักได้
1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
1:8 แต่เป็นคนมีอัชฌาสัยรับแขกดี เป็นผู้รักคนดี เป็นคนมีสติสัมปชัญญะ เป็นคนชอบธรรม เป็นคนบริสุทธิ์ รู้จักบังคับใจตนเอง
1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
1:9 และเป็นคนยึดมั่นในหลักคำสอนอันสัตย์ซื่อตามที่ได้เรียนมาแล้ว เพื่อเขาจะสามารถเตือนสติด้วยคำสอนอันถูกต้อง และชี้แจงแก่ผู้ที่คัดค้านคำสอนนั้น
1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
1:10 เพราะว่ามีคนเป็นอันมากที่ดื้อกระด้าง พูดมากไม่เป็นสาระ และหลอกลวง โดยเฉพาะบรรดาผู้ที่เข้าสุหนัต
1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
1:11 จำเป็นต้องให้เขาสงบปากเสีย ด้วยเขาพลิกบ้านคว่ำทั้งครัวเรือนให้เสียไป โดยสอนสิ่งที่ไม่ควรจะสอนเลย เพราะเห็นแก่เล็กแก่น้อย
1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
1:12 ในพวกเขาเองมีคนหนึ่งเป็นผู้พยากรณ์ได้กล่าวว่า "ชาวครีตเป็นคนพูดปดเสมอ เป็นเหมือนอย่างสัตว์ร้าย เป็นคนเกียจคร้านกินเติบ"
1:12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
1:13 คำที่เขาอ้างนี้เป็นความจริง เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจงต่อว่าเขาให้แรงๆเพื่อเขาจะได้มีความเชื่ออันถูกต้อง
1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
1:14 และจะมิได้สนใจในนิยายของพวกยิว และในบทบัญญัติของมนุษย์ซึ่งให้หันไปเสียจากความจริง
1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
1:15 สำหรับคนบริสุทธิ์นั้น ทุกสิ่งก็บริสุทธิ์ แต่สำหรับคนชั่วช้า และคนที่ไม่เชื่อนั้น ก็ไม่มีสิ่งใดบริสุทธิ์เลย แต่จิตใจและจิตสำนึกผิดชอบของเขาก็ชั่วมลทินไป
1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
1:16 เขาออกปากยอมรับว่าเขารู้จักพระเจ้า แต่ว่าในการกระทำของเขา เขาก็ปฏิเสธพระองค์ โดยการประพฤติตัวน่ารังเกียจ และไม่เชื่อฟัง และไม่เหมาะที่จะกระทำการดีใดๆเลย
1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
