1:1 ยากอบ ผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้าและของพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า คำนับพงศ์พันธุ์สิบสองตระกูลที่กระจัดกระจายอยู่นั้น
1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
1:2 พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายตกอยู่ในการทดลองต่างๆก็จงถือว่าเป็นเรื่องน่ายินดีทั้งสิ้น
1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
1:3 เพราะท่านทั้งหลายรู้ว่า การทดลองความเชื่อของท่านนั้น ทำให้เกิดความเพียร
1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
1:4 และจงให้ความเพียรนั้นกระทำการจนสำเร็จ เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะสมบูรณ์ครบถ้วนไม่ขาดสิ่งใดเลย
1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
1:5 ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านขาดสติปัญญา ก็ให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอจากพระเจ้า ผู้ทรงโปรดประทานให้แก่คนทั้งปวงอย่างเหลือล้นและมิได้ทรงตำหนิ และจะทรงประทานให้แก่ผู้นั้น
1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
1:6 แต่จงให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอด้วยความเชื่อ อย่าหวั่นไหวเลย เพราะว่าผู้ที่หวั่นไหวก็เป็นเหมือนคลื่นในทะเลซึ่งถูกลมพัดซัดไปมา
1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
1:7 ผู้นั้นจงอย่าคิดว่าจะได้รับสิ่งใดจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเลย
1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
1:8 คนสองใจเป็นคนไม่มั่นคงในบรรดาทางทั้งหลายที่ตนประพฤตินั้น
1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
1:9 ให้พี่น้องที่ต่ำต้อยชื่นชมยินดีในการที่ทรงเชิดชูเขา
1:9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
1:10 และคนมั่งมีก็จงชื่นชมยินดีเมื่อถูกทำให้ต่ำลง เพราะว่าเขาจะต้องล่วงลับไปดุจดอกหญ้า
1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
1:11 เพราะทันทีที่ตะวันขึ้นพร้อมด้วยความร้อนอันแรงกล้า มันก็กระทำให้หญ้าเหี่ยวแห้งไป และดอกหญ้าก็ร่วงลง และความงามของมันสูญสิ้นไป คนมั่งมีจะเสื่อมสูญไปตามทางทั้งหลายของเขาเช่นนั้นด้วย
1:11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
1:12 ความสุขย่อมมีแก่คนนั้นที่สู้ทนการทดลอง เพราะเมื่อปรากฏว่าผู้นั้นทนได้แล้ว เขาจะได้รับมงกุฎแห่งชีวิต ซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่คนทั้งหลายที่รักพระองค์
1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
1:13 เมื่อผู้ใดถูกล่อลวงให้หลง อย่าให้ผู้นั้นพูดว่า "พระเจ้าทรงล่อลวงข้าพเจ้าให้หลง" เพราะว่าความชั่วจะมาล่อลวงพระเจ้าให้หลงไม่ได้ และพระองค์เองก็ไม่ทรงล่อลวงผู้ใดให้หลงเลย
1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
1:14 แต่ว่าทุกคนก็ถูกล่อลวง เมื่อตัณหาของตนเองชักนำให้กระทำผิด แล้วตัวก็กระทำตาม
1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
1:15 ครั้นตัณหาเกิดขึ้นแล้ว ก็ทำให้เกิดบาป และเมื่อบาปโตเต็มที่แล้ว ก็นำไปสู่ความตาย
1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
1:16 พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า อย่าหลงผิดเลย
1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
1:17 ของประทานอันดีทุกอย่าง และของประทานอันเลิศทุกอย่างย่อมมาจากเบื้องบน และส่งลงมาจากพระบิดาแห่งบรรดาดวงสว่าง ในพระบิดาไม่มีการแปรปรวน หรือไม่มีเงาอันเนื่องจากการเปลี่ยนแปลง
1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
1:18 พระองค์ได้ทรงให้เราทั้งหลายบังเกิดโดยพระวจนะแห่งความจริงตามน้ำพระทัยของพระองค์ เพื่อเราทั้งหลายจะได้เป็นอย่างผลแรกแห่งสรรพสิ่งซึ่งพระองค์ทรงสร้างนั้น
1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
1:19 ดังนั้น พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงให้ทุกคนไวในการฟัง ช้าในการพูด ช้าในการโกรธ
1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
1:20 เพราะว่าความโกรธของมนุษย์ไม่ได้กระทำให้เกิดความชอบธรรมอย่างพระเจ้า
1:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
1:21 เหตุฉะนั้น จงถอดทิ้งการโสโครกทุกอย่าง และการชั่วร้ายอันดาษดื่น และจงน้อมใจรับพระวจนะที่ทรงปลูกฝังไว้แล้วนั้น ซึ่งสามารถช่วยจิตวิญญาณของท่านทั้งหลายให้รอดได้
1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
1:22 แต่ท่านทั้งหลายจงเป็นคนที่ประพฤติตามพระวจนะนั้น ไม่ใช่เป็นแต่เพียงผู้ฟังเท่านั้น ซึ่งเป็นการล่อลวงตนเอง
1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1:23 เพราะว่าถ้าผู้ใดฟังพระวจนะ และไม่ได้ประพฤติตาม ผู้นั้นก็เป็นเหมือนคนที่ดูหน้าของตัวในกระจกเงา
1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
1:24 ด้วยว่าคนนั้นแลดูตัวเองแล้วไปเสีย แล้วในทันใดนั้นก็ลืมว่าตัวเป็นอย่างไร
1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
1:25 ฝ่ายผู้ใดที่พิจารณาดูในพระราชบัญญัติแห่งเสรีภาพอันดีเลิศ และดำรงอยู่ในพระราชบัญญัตินั้น ผู้นั้นไม่ได้เป็นผู้ฟังแล้วหลงลืม แต่เป็นผู้ประพฤติตามกิจการนั้น คนนั้นจะได้ความสุขในการของตน
1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
1:26 ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านดูเหมือนว่าเคร่งครัดในความเชื่อ และมิได้เหนี่ยวรั้งลิ้นของตนไว้ แต่ล่อลวงใจของตนเอง การเคร่งครัดในความเชื่อของผู้นั้นก็ไร้ประโยชน์
1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
1:27 การเคร่งครัดในความเชื่ออย่างบริสุทธิ์ไร้มลทินต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าและพระบิดานั้น คือการเยี่ยมเยียนเด็กกำพร้าพ่อและหญิงม่ายที่มีความทุกข์ร้อน และการรักษาตัวให้พ้นจากราคีของโลก
1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
