2:1 พี่น้องทั้งหลายของข้าพเจ้า การเชื่อในพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรา ผู้ทรงสง่าราศีนั้น อย่าให้เป็นด้วยการเลือกหน้าคน
2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2:2 เพราะว่าถ้ามีคนหนึ่งสวมแหวนทองคำและแต่งตัวด้วยเครื่องแต่งกายอย่างดีเข้ามาในที่ประชุมของท่าน และมีคนจนคนหนึ่งแต่งตัวด้วยเสื้อผ้าซอมซ่อเข้ามาด้วย
2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
2:3 และท่านสนใจคนที่สวมใส่เครื่องแต่งกายอย่างดี และกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เชิญท่านนั่งที่นี่ในที่อันดีเถิด" และท่านก็พูดกับคนจนนั้นว่า "แกจงยืนอยู่ที่นั่น" หรือ "จงนั่งแทบที่รองเท้าของเราเถิด"
2:3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
2:4 พวกท่านเองมิได้ลำเอียง และกลายเป็นผู้วินิจฉัยด้วยใจชั่วหรือ
2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
2:5 พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงฟังเถิด พระเจ้าทรงเลือกคนยากจนในโลกนี้ให้เป็นคนมั่งมีในความเชื่อ และให้เป็นทายาทแห่งอาณาจักร ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่ผู้ที่รักพระองค์มิใช่หรือ
2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
2:6 แต่ท่านทั้งหลายได้ดูถูกคนจน ไม่ใช่คนมั่งมีหรือที่กดขี่ท่านและลากตัวท่านไปขึ้นศาล
2:6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
2:7 ไม่ใช่เขาเหล่านั้นหรือที่สบประมาทพระนามอันประเสริฐซึ่งใช้เรียกท่าน
2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
2:8 ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายกระทำให้สำเร็จตามพระราชบัญญัติแห่งพระมหากษัตริย์ตามพระคัมภีร์ที่ว่า `จงรักเพื่อนบ้านเหมือนรักตนเอง' แล้ว ท่านทั้งหลายก็ประพฤติดีอยู่
2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
2:9 แต่ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายเลือกหน้าคน ท่านก็กระทำบาป และตามพระราชบัญญัติ ท่านก็เป็นผู้ละเมิดแล้ว
2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
2:10 เพราะว่าผู้ใดรักษาพระราชบัญญัติได้ทั้งหมด แต่ผิดอยู่ข้อเดียว ผู้นั้นก็เป็นผู้ผิดพระราชบัญญัติทั้งหมด
2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
2:11 ด้วยว่าพระองค์ผู้ได้ตรัสว่า `อย่าล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา' ก็ได้ตรัสไว้ด้วยว่า `อย่าฆ่าคน' แม้ท่านไม่ได้ล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขาแต่ได้ฆ่าคน ท่านก็เป็นผู้ละเมิดพระราชบัญญัติ
2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
2:12 ท่านทั้งหลายจงพูดและจงกระทำเช่นผู้ที่จะได้รับการพิพากษาด้วยพระราชบัญญัติแห่งเสรีภาพ
2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
2:13 เพราะว่าผู้ที่ไม่แสดงความเมตตาย่อมจะได้รับการพิพากษาโดยปราศจากความเมตตา แต่ความเมตตาย่อมก่อให้เกิดความชื่นชมยินดีมากกว่าการพิพากษา
2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
2:14 พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า แม้ผู้ใดจะว่าตนมีความเชื่อ แต่ไม่มีการกระทำ จะได้ประโยชน์อะไร ความเชื่อจะช่วยผู้นั้นให้รอดได้หรือ
2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
2:15 ถ้าพี่น้องชายหญิงคนใดเปลือยเปล่าและขาดแคลนอาหารประจำวัน
2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
2:16 และมีคนใดในพวกท่านกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เชิญไปเป็นสุขเถิด ขอให้อบอุ่นและอิ่มเถิด" และไม่ได้ให้สิ่งซึ่งจำเป็นต่อร่างกายแก่เขา จะเป็นประโยชน์อะไรเล่า
2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
2:17 ความเชื่อก็เช่นเดียวกัน ถ้าปราศจากการกระทำ ก็ตายโดยลำพังแล้ว
2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
2:18 แต่คงมีผู้ค้านว่า "ท่านมีความเชื่อ และข้าพเจ้ามีการกระทำ" จงแสดงความเชื่อของท่านที่ปราศจากการกระทำให้ข้าพเจ้าเห็น และข้าพเจ้าจะแสดงให้ท่านเห็นความเชื่อของข้าพเจ้าโดยการกระทำของข้าพเจ้า
2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
2:19 ท่านเชื่อว่ามีพระเจ้าองค์เดียว นั่นก็ดีอยู่แล้ว แม้พวกปิศาจก็เชื่อเช่นกัน และกลัวจนตัวสั่น
2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
2:20 โอ คนไร้ค่า ท่านอยากจะรู้หรือว่า ความเชื่อที่ปราศจากการกระทำก็ตายแล้ว
2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
2:21 เมื่ออับราฮัมบิดาของเราได้ถวายอิศอัคบุตรชายของท่านบนแท่นบูชา จึงได้ความชอบธรรมโดยการกระทำไม่ใช่หรือ
2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
2:22 ท่านทั้งหลายคงเห็นแล้วว่า ความเชื่อได้กระทำกิจร่วมกับการกระทำของท่าน และความเชื่อก็สมบูรณ์ได้โดยการกระทำ
2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
2:23 และพระคัมภีร์ก็สำเร็จที่ว่า `อับราฮัมได้เชื่อพระเจ้า และพระองค์ทรงนับว่าเป็นความชอบธรรมแก่ท่าน' และท่านได้ชื่อว่า เป็น `สหายของพระเจ้า'
2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
2:24 ท่านทั้งหลายก็เห็นแล้วว่า ผู้ใดจะเป็นคนชอบธรรมได้ ก็เนื่องด้วยการกระทำ และมิใช่ด้วยความเชื่อเพียงอย่างเดียว
2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
2:25 เช่นเดียวกันราหับหญิงแพศยาก็ได้ความชอบธรรมเนื่องด้วยการกระทำด้วยมิใช่หรือ เมื่อนางได้รับรองผู้ส่งข่าวเหล่านั้น และส่งเขาไปเสียทางอื่น
2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
2:26 เพราะกายที่ปราศจากจิตวิญญาณนั้นตายแล้วฉันใด ความเชื่อที่ปราศจากการกระทำก็ตายแล้วฉันนั้นเช่นเดียวกัน
2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
